'High and Dry'
The Presentation Print
This print is an open edition giclee print on museum quality paper with a slightly structured soft-textured surface as in a traditional fine art paper. The paper is acid free with a weight of 315gsm.
The normal print size is approximately 16 x 21.5 inches, but, as this is a bespoke piece of art, the artist can produce it for you at a smaller size so that it can hang in that ideal position in your house or will be the best size for a gift.
A bespoke picture can have your loggo, or wording placed on it, a superb solution for a presentation gift.
An email newsletter tells you which prints are rare. Typically it features one print and tells the story behind it. It tells collectors the latest painting Michael is working on and the latest print he is producing. It describes where Michael's paintings are being exhibited and selects a charity print supporting farmers, lifeboats, dartmoor ponies or hospice charities to show how that print is making a difference. The newsletter is free and you can unsubscribe at any time. Please click on the link to be kept in touch with Michael's work.
The Story of the Painting
These are my boats resting on the sand at Instow. After a days sailing on the river Torridge Number 10 has been brought back to her moorings as the tide ebbs and the sun sets behind the village of Appledore.
Number 10 is the last remaining one of the eighteen Taw Torridge One Designs built in the late twenties and thirties to race on these waters. Long ago her class was replaced by faster, lighter dinghies and catamarans with fluorescent spinnakers and immersion suited crews. She however has an elegance and beauty of a different age with varnished spars and brass fittings, wooden blocks and running backstays.
My family and I have spent many a happy summer’s day tacking up to Bideford or running across the estuary with billowing sails to Crow Point to picnic among the dunes.
My son and daughter learnt to row on the dinghy as I am sure many generations of children have before them. She was built at the beginning of the last century and is a sturdy, stable little boat designed to be dragged up and down the shingles.
