The Presentation Print
This print is an open edition giclee print on museum quality paper with a slightly structured soft-textured surface as in a traditional fine art paper. The paper is acid free with a weight of 315gsm.
The normal print size is approximately 15.5 x 21.5 inches, but, as this is a bespoke piece of art, the artist can produce it for you at a smaller size so that it can hang in that ideal position in your house or will be the best size for a gift.
A bespoke picture can have your loggo, or wording placed on it, a superb solution for a presentation gift.
An email newsletter tells you which prints are rare. Typically it features one print and tells the story behind it. It tells collectors the latest painting Michael is working on and the latest print he is producing. It describes where Michael's paintings are being exhibited and selects a charity print supporting farmers, lifeboats, dartmoor ponies or hospice charities to show how that print is making a difference. The newsletter is free and you can unsubscribe at any time. Please click on the link to be kept in touch with Michael's work.
The Story of the Painting
The village of Clovelly is very steep and the houses tumble down the cliff side towards the small harbour, sheltered from south westerly gales.
The cottage has a magnificent rose covering its wall and Michael's son and daughter stand looking at the scene. The hole is the top of the lime kiln; every village with a harbour had one as limestone and coal were shipped in from Wales to the beaches and ports. It was then converted to lime and spread on the fields to correct the natural acidity or to lime wash the buildings - like Rose Cottage. Unloading Bucks Mills shows a ketch unloading limestone and coal onto the beach
Whilst Michael was painting a coach load of visitors arrived. One lady was terrified of heights and clung to the wall in the painting. Unfortunately Michael's umbrella was tied to the wall to stop it blowing away and the lady plucked up her courage to go around. She lost her nerve half way and made a desperate grab for the easel. Unfortunately Michael's palette was in the way so the poor woman's dress was covered in oil paints.
